2019 Election: GOC urges soldiers to be apolitical
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Sanni Yusuf, has urged soldiers to discharge their duties in accordance with the law during the forthcoming general elections.
He urged officers and men in the military to remain committed in the discharge of their duties.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that WASA is an annual army event aimed at promoting team spirit and confidence within and outside the barracks.
It is also a forum for informal and social interaction and an avenue for the barracks community to showcase the rich and diverse cultures of the country.
Yusuf said the military must remain focused, dedicated and professional in the discharge of its duties.
“My advice to officers and soldiers is that we should be apolitical during the general elections, and not forget that we are professional service personnel.
“We are expected to discharge our civic duties on the day of the election or when we are called out to support the civil authority on election duties,” he said.
The GOC appreciated everyone that participated in entertaining everyone with the rich cultures of Nigeria, saying it showed unity.
“The essence of WASA has been achieved which is for soldiers, officers and families to come and socialise in a relaxed environment.
The Commandant of the Centre, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Liman, also advised soldiers to remain professional at all times.
