The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega to appear before it today, February 18.

Jega is expected to inform the Senators on INEC’s preparations towards and readiness for the upcoming general elections.

The Senate reached the decision to summon Jega on Tuesday, February 17, after it resumed from a 33-day break.
The INEC chairman is also expected to appear before the Senate with one of the card readers which will be used during the elections so as to demonstrate to the lawmakers how it works.
The Senate will also make a decision on whether to summon the country’s service chiefs based on Jega’s submission.
The INEC Chairman announced the postponement of the general elections on February 7, stating that the service chiefs had informed him that they would be unable to provide security on the original date.
