Police recover stolen cash, laptops from ex-convicts after fresh robbery

Having met in prison while servicing their sentences, Wasiu Opeyemi, 37, and Noah Israel, 27, conspired to rob unsuspecting members of the public with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

Operatives of Ogun Police Command, have nabbed two ex-convicts in Mowe, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

The policemen intercepted the ex-convicts when they were returning from Ogbomoso in Oyo State for a robbery operation.

Disclosing the ex-convicts’ arrest, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi identified them as Wasiu Opeyemi, 37, and Noah Israel, 27.

A statement in which he made this disclosure, read: “The two men, 37-year-old Wasiu Opeyemi, an indigene of Ijebu Ode, and 27-year-old Noah Israel, a Benue State indigene, were apprehended by men of the state anti-kidnapping unit, who were on a routine patrol in the Mowe area on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“The two men, who were on a motorcycle, were accosted by the team because of the suspicious manner they appeared and they were stopped for questioning. The two suspects made an attempt to escape, but were quickly surrounded by the operatives and taken to the nearest police station.

“On interrogation, they confessed to the police that they were coming from Ogbomoso in Oyo State, where they had gone to carry out a robbery operation.

“They confessed further that all the goods in their possession were proceeds of the operation.

“They also stated that one of their victims was forced to transfer the sum of N100,000 into their account since nothing tangible was found on him.

“The suspects, who claimed to have met at the Oba Custodial Centre while serving different jail terms, confessed to robbing their victims with cutlasses and other weapons.”

The policemen recovered two laptops, 11 phones of different types, one Rolex wristwatch, a cash sum of N122,000 and bags containing household items from Opeyemi and Israel.
