An explosion which occurred in Maiduguri, Borno State on Tuesday, November 25 has claimed 30 lives, according to reports.

Two female suicide bombers dressed in hijabs, and believed to be teenagers, detonated explosives in a crowded market in the busy metropolis.

The Borno state coordinator of the Civilian Joint Task Force, Abba Aji Kalli told the Associated Press that the first bomber blew herself up and killed about three women and while people were gathered, the second bomber screamed and set off her own bomb killing about 30.

"I am right here at the scene and I have before me 11 corpses ... many have been taken away by relatives, while others are taken to the state specialists' hospital," Kalli said.

A witness, Sani Adamu in confirming Kalli’s account told Reuters that he had counted about 30 bodies on the ground.

“While the people were trying to help the injured the second bomb blasted. I saw lots of bodies,” he added.

Security officials have reportedly cordoned the area while rescue efforts are underway. No official casualty figure has been released.
