The Federal Government has said it will move to evacuate Nigerians from South Africa if the xenophobic attacks get worse.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, said the Federal Government is monitoring the situation closely and would swing to action when necessary.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, April 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali, said that the government is monitoring the situation closely and would swing to action when necessary.
"If it gets worse it is the duty of our country to make sure our people are brought back and we are taking that duty serious. We are not prepared to allow any of our nationals to be subjected to such inhuman treatment. We are monitoring the situation and will now take action according to the situation that develops,” he said.
Earlier today, April 16, a member of the House of Representatives, Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, had called on the Federal Government to begin the evacuation process of Nigerians in South Africa within 24 hours to avoid losing them to the ongoing violence in the country.
