Oyo lawmaker celebrates with physically challenged

Olatoye, who is representing Lagelu/Eleyele Federal Constituency in Oyo, said he was using the occasion to make the beneficiaries feel a sense of belonging.

Temitope Olaoye

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that several empowerment items were distributed to thousands of physically challenged persons to celebrate the day.

According to him, ``disability goes beyond inability to walk, talk, or see; it is also inability to contribute substantially to one's society. ``

He told NAN that 5, 000 items worth millions of naira were distributed to some beneficiaries in all the 33 local government areas of the state.

``In the spirit of celebration, our gesture towards this special people is all-inclusive; it covers all the 33 local governments in the state.

``We all know that there is ability in disability; it is incumbent on the society they live in, to support them and make them feel part of the society.

``Obviously, disability is a thing of the mind, those who have the opportunity to contribute positively to their society and refused to do so, are disabled in mind, `` Olatoye said.
