The strike which was embarked upon by the doctors due to non-payment of salary arrears will be called off as the hospital management has agreed to their terms.

Speaking under the aegis of the National Association of Resident Doctors in Uyo on Thursday, October 6, the doctors disclosed that they agreed to call off their strike as the hospital management has agreed to pay their full entitlements beginning at the end of September.

The president of the association, Dr Christian Adeneye, said that their conclusion to suspend the strike was reached following a letter from the Medical Director, Prof. Etete Peters, promising to pay them their salary arrears in full.

“We are calling off our two months’ old strike. The Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Etete Peters, has written to us about the efforts they have made to ensure that we get our full entitlements. Other issues will be resolved as we go on, we believe,” he said.

The doctors embarked on the strike in August following the hospital management's refusal to implement their full emoluments as directed by the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Salaries and Wages Commission.
