Suspected locals kill herdsman, 15 cows

The attack might be in retaliation to a recent attack by suspected herdsmen who had killed two people in Plateau.

This was disclosed by the Plateau State Police Command's spokesman, Terna Tyopev, in a statement issued in Jos, the state capital.

According to him, the attack might be in retaliation to a recent attack by suspected herdsmen who had killed two people in Ariri and Tafi-Gene villages of Jebu-Miango in Bassa LGA during the weekend.

He said, "At about 5:30 pm, we received information that a herdsman was killed and 15 of his cows slaughtered by gunmen suspected to be Iregwe people at Rafin-Bauna village of Bassa Local Government.

"We are yet to ascertain the name and address of the victim."

Tyopev also disclosed that two Iregwe youths sustained various degree of injuries after they were attacked by suspected herdsmen while returning from a mining site at Gyero community, also on Monday, in what might be a reprisal attack for the killed herdsman.

He said the two were receiving treatment at Enos Hospital, Miango.
