Police IG reacts to alleged murder of ASP by anti-robbery squad

Vanguard reported that Akpos was murdered at the Amarata area of Yenagoa in Bayelsa state around 5pm on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Arase has asked aggrieved family members of the deceased policeman to be calm, adding that the police will make sure those found guilty are brought to book.
Daily Post reports that the police force spokesman, Bisi Kolawole issued a statement saying “Upon the receipt of the information, the IGP immediately directed that the matter be investigated to ensure justice is served.
“Meanwhile, all the Policemen linked with the killing of the officer have been arrested, detained and are presently undergoing investigation, for subsequent prosecution.
“The IGP called on the family and friends of the deceased officer to remain calm and patient as the Police authority will not relent in their efforts to ensure professionalism in carrying out their constitutional assignment.”
Eyewitness reports say Mathew Akpos was shot by the suspected police officers, while he was struggling with them.
