Senator Ibn Na’Allah has confirmed that he indeed sponsored a bill to censor the use of social media in Nigeria.

Na’allah also expressed surprise that any senator would deny knowledge of the bill, according to Sahara Reporters.
“Sen. Ibn Na'Allah says each time he presented his bill at the Senate, there was full quorum at the @NGRSenate,” the online platform said via Twitter.
“I am surprised that any @NGRSenate member would deny they didn't know of this bill, because I've presented it twice. I presented the bill for its 1st reading on Nov 24th at the @NGRSenate and a 2nd reading passed yesterday (Dec 2nd)"- Sen. Na'allah.

“Sen. Ibn Na'Allah confirms that his bill carries a two year jail term for petitions and social media postings deemed "false. Sen. Ibn Na'Allah says anyone opposed to the bill should come to the public hearing phase of the bill. Let anyone in doubt about participating @NGRSenate members obtain the attendance record for yesterday"-Na'Allah,” it added.
The Senate became the centre of controversy yesterday, December 2, 2015, when it was revealed that it planned to jail social media critics for two years.
The reports were however denied by Senate President, Bukola Saraki who said that there was no such provision in the bill.
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce also denied knowledge of the controversial bill after he was attacked by Sahara Reporters for supporting it.
