I am not afraid of bailout funds probe – Governor says

Ortom said the funds were spent judiciously, adding that his administration will not protect any guilty government official.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom

This is coming on the heels of reports that the Senate has commenced a probe on how the Osun state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola spent the bailout funds given to the state.

According to Daily Post, Ortom said the funds were spent judiciously, adding that his administration will not protect any government official found guilty.

The Governor, who spoke through his Press Scretary, Terver Akase, said “The call by the Senate is apt. It is the responsibility of the legislature to checkmate the executive and we in Benue have nothing to fear because our government is anchored on transparency, accountability and the fear of God.”

“We are happy with the call because it affords us the opportunity to tell the whole world how the bailouts fund was transparently utilised by the Governor.

“The ICPC had investigated the state and did not find anything wrong. As far as I am concerned, there is no known case of any diversion of the bailout funds,” he added.

Recently, the Governor  told workers in the state that his administration will soon overcome the challenges of non-payment of salaries.
