Gunmen open fire on Governor's convoy

The gunmen were reported to have opened fire on the Governor’s entourage, leaving at least two people injured.

 

Unknown gunmen have attacked Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi’s convoy in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Thursday , March 26, Premium Times reports.

According to the governor’s spokesperson, David Iyofor, the gunmen shot at Amaechi in Rumuolumeni, Obio Akpor, area of Port Harcourt.

Obio Akpor is the home of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike, who is known to have a dispute with governor over the choice of his (Amaechi) successor, Dakuku Peterside.

Governor Amaechi was reportedly in Obio Akpor to campaign for the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), blaming the attack on the opposition PDP.
