Governor imposes dusk-to-dawn curfew on Port Harcourt

The curfew was imposed on Monday, March 30, and will be in place from 7p.m. to 6a.m.

 

Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The announcement was made via a statement released by the the Secretary to the State Government, George Feyi.

“The curfew will continue till further notice,” the statement read.

Rivers has been in a state of upheaval since Saturday, March 28, after members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged that Presidential and National Assembly elections, which were slated for that day, did not hold in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) however insisted that polls were conducted in the state.

President Goodluck Jonathan won the elections in the state by a landslide polling 1,487,075 votes as against his opponent, Muhammadu Buhari’s 69,238.
