The conferment took place during the special convocation ceremony of the University.

Vanguard reports that the University’s Vice Chancellor of the Prof Benard Aigbokhan said “the governor gave his full support and did everything possible to ensure the smooth take-off of the university which has now graduated its first set of students.”
Also speaking at the occasion, the chairman, Board of Trustees, of the University, Dr Ebenezer Okebukola, said “The unquantifiable contributions of Governor Oshiomhole led to the development of Samuel Adegboyega University.”
