‘We won’t release him till he refunds N400M,’ EFCC says

Metuh was arrested on January 5, 2016, in connection with the ongoing investigation of the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud which was allegedly supervised by Dasuki.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that it will not release Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson, Olisa Metuh until he refunds the N400 million he received from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Metuh was arrested on January 5, 2016, in connection with the ongoing investigation of the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud which was allegedly supervised by Dasuki.

“From the records, Metuh got over N400 million, he has not said anything because we need the public money to be returned so that it’s going to be used for public good,” EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu disclosed during a meeting with online media publishers in Lagos on Monday, January 11.

“Also Jafaru Isa, what Dasuki gave him was N170 million. He also agreed…of course he has collected that money, he was with us for 4-5 days and then he made a deposit of N100 million and entered an undertaking to bring the rest. That does not mean we will not prosecute him

“But this other Metuh, instead of going for a refund, he has admitted he collected money…. so instead of… he still has the money because the money is too much. Instead of returning the money, he preferred to go on strike,” Magu added.

Isa, a political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, was also arrested by the EFCC for receiving N170 million from Dasuki.

Dasuki was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the EFCC the day after.

The former NSA is reported to have implicated several prominent persons in the deal including former governors, ex-ministers and members of the PDP.

Dasuki’s lawyer however denied the report that his client had become an informant while the former NSA said that Jonathan was aware of the transactions he had made.

Jonathan has however denied authorizing the release of the stated funds despite the former NSA’s claim that he got the necessary presidential approval for the transactions.

Dasuki was released on bail from Kuje Prison in December 2015 but was soon re-arrested by the DSS.
