Imo State Governor has lost his mind and we are here to tell him

A State Governor who thinks it's okay to torment his people with refuse, deserves his place in a Psychiatric facility

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State

No surprises anymore when it comes to the "My People, My People" crooner. But the latest vibes from Owelle still leaves us with some shock value.

A mountain of refuse decorates the popular Douglas Road in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

This refuse heap should be a source of embarrassment to the Imo State Government, not just because it's an eyesore but also because it poses significant health risk to everyone who does business or drives through the vicinity.

The refuse heap has dominated mainstream and social media chatter for sometime now.

An Anglican Priest, Rev. Canon Uche Chinamerem, of the Imo Diocese, brought more attention to the eyesore decorating a State capital, when he celebrated Nigeria's 56th independence anniversary right beside the rubbish dump; while sipping on a glass of wine.

Said the Priest: “I went to celebrate in front of the refuse dump because what is there is shameful.

“Let’s accept that the government refused to clear the refuse, how can a normal human being go to the market every day, trade within that dirty environment and think nothing about the refuse? Don’t we have market women association, community groups or vigilantes in the area?

“Obviously, they are waiting for the government to clear the refuse. In Igbo parlance, we say a rejected man does not reject himself. Why have we decided to reject ourselves? Why can’t we clear the refuse and tell the government that if it cannot be responsible, we are responsible citizens?  So, this is not just about spiting the government, but telling our people to wake up and do the right thing when the government has failed.”

It should be odious enough that all we've heard and seen from Imo State all week is a 5-star refuse heap. But if you thought the Okorocha led government was going to be embarrassed by a stinking, giant refuse heap along a major road in the city center, you got another think coming.

The State Government said it deliberately left the refuse unpacked because it so wanted to spite the people.

Said Chief Press Secretary to Okorocha, Samuel Onwuemeodo:“Government deliberately abandoned the refuse along Douglas Road, Owerri, to get back at Owerri people who have been battling the state government, over the relocation of the market.

“Owerri people must be made to understand that they cannot eat their cake and have it. There is a court order restraining government from tampering with the market and this also explains why we left the refuse.”

Yeah, you read that right:

A government voted in by the people thinks it's perfectly okay to inflict the same people with ailments and possible deaths from a refuse heap.

But we aren't done with Okorocha just yet. He's also told Imo State residents that he is yet to decide who his successor will be. Just when you thought the people will be the ones to choose their next Governor.

“I have not decided who will be the next Governor of Imo state", said Okorocha, taking on the mantle of dictator, emperor and electorate in one fell swoop.

It is said of Okorocha that he superintends over the affairs of Imo State with ample doses of populism and propaganda. Not for him the more honourable path of good governance and grassroot development. The man is all about the optics and Public Relations, Imo residents say.

In which case if he doesn't think a giant refuse heap perceived round the world, thanks to his own making, is bad optics enough, it will be time to send the man to a Psychiatric facility.

The man has lost his mind. And badly needs help.
