The information is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo in Owerri on Tuesday.
Onwuemeodo said the members were inaugurated at the Government House, Owerri, adding that the role of the Council was not only advisory but would also provide constructive criticisms for the government.
The secretary noted that members of the Council, who are 70 years and above, would also serve as the bridge between and among political parties in the state.
The Council has Dr E.J.K Onyewuchi as Chairman, while Mr Pat Abii is the Secretary.
Onyewuchi thanked the governor for acknowledging the role and importance of elders in a democratic setting and assured him that they would leave no stone unturned to achieve the goals for which the Council was constituted.
