Fuel scarcity to end soon as Mosinmi depot reopens for loading

"When you go around, you will see that the queues at Petrol Stations have reduced. If the situation continues, by next week, the scarcity will be over,’’ he said.

Petrol scarcity in Nigeria

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday assured of an immediate end to petrol scarcity nationwide, following the reopening of the Mosinmi Depot, near Sagamu, for loading.

The South-West Chairman of the union, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Korodo said that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had started pumping petroleum products to the Mosinmi Depot for distribution to marketers in Lagos and other parts of the country.

He said that if the corporation maintained the trend, the current nationwide fuel scarcity would end soon. NAN reports the depot was shut for repairs due to the supply pipelines to the depot which were damaged by vandals.

"The Mosinmi depot has received petrol supplies from the NNPC since the beginning of this week and massive loading of petroleum products has commenced there.

"We believe that if the corporation can maintain the supply of petrol steadily for some time, it will reduce the scarcity of the product nationwide.

Korodo urged the corporation to extend the gesture to other NNPC depots across the nation, to stem the number of tankers heading to load at the Mosinmi Depot.

He, however, commended the Federal Government for reopening the depot.

Korodo added that the reopening of the depot had shown that the government had fulfilled its promise of reopening the depot without delay.
