The former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, has called on Nigerians to stop celebrating criminals.

According to reports, Ribadu said Nigerians should stop celebrating people with questionable characters, the war against corruption will succeed.

The former EFCC boss also called on leaders to show the right example, adding that leadership is also needed for the anti-corruption war to succeed.

Ribadu said “There should also be the will to apply the sanctions. As I have pointed out several times, lack of will by the political leadership to prosecute the war against corruption takes us to nowhere. The political leadership should be determined and it should be seen to be serious about it.

“Honesty has to be lifted to the position of a prized and rewarding national value. Criminals should not be celebrated as heroes on account of their wealth.”

He also called for the scrapping of security votes and criminalisation of all extra budgetary spending.

Ribadu said this 2016 conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), in Abuja.

The former EFCC boss also urged Nigerians to stop politicizing President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption.
