Corp partners DPR to enforce new petrol pump price in Anambra

Omoregie said that Anambra command had been synergising with the DPR since they commenced enforcement in the state, and willing to help the agency achieve its goal.

NSCDC officers

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra, says it will work with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to ensure oil marketers complied with the N86.5 per litre approved price for petrol.

Mr Godwin Omoregie, Anambra NSCDC Commandant, gave the assurance on Thursday in Awka, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the command would provide security support for the DPR to compel marketers to comply with the approved pump price.

"It is the mandate of the DPR to enforce pump price and not the NSCDC, but we are empowered under the law to provide security for their operations.

"We have a standing order to arrest, detain and if possible prosecute erring petroleum products marketers as determined by the DPR, the agency in charge of the sector.

"According to the anti-sabotage law, it is an offence for anybody to willfully do anything to obstruct or prevent production or distribution of petroleum products in any part of Nigeria.

"Ours is to ensure that the policy of the Federal Government being carried out by the DPR is made effective here in Anambra command," he said.

NAN reports that IPMAN Enugu zone had alleged intimidation of their members in the hands of DPR and NSCDC, and threatened to shut down operations.
