Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, has condoled with families of the deceased and injured victims of Christmas Eve's fire incidence at Nnewi.

The former governor described the incidence as “tragic and regrettable”. He prayed to God to grant peaceful repose to all those who lost their lives in the inferno. He also encourage the bereaved families to take heart and trust in God's providence.

Agreeing that matters of birth and death are in God's, Mr Obi however admonished people to be more careful and vigilant to order to forestall a future re-occurrence of the ugly incidence.

Peter Obi also expressed his solidarity with his successor, Chief Willie Obiano, the present Governor of Anambra State. He also condoled with the traditional ruler of Nnewi.

“Nnewi is directly affected by the unfortunate incidence, we must show solidarity with them, bearing in mind that, as Donne John said, ‘Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind.’’

He equally challenged the fire service and security operatives in Anambra State to rise to the occasion and rush to assist when duties calls.

Several lives and property were lost in the inferno that occurred on the 24 of December at a gas plant in Nnewi.
