Biafra leader's lawyers announce withdrawal from case

This came after a drama ensued in court over the legal representation for the accused person.

Radio Biafra boss, Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu's 15 counsels have withdrawn from his alleged treasonable felony case.

The spokesman for Kanu’s legal team, Vincent Obetta, announced the withdrawal today, Jan. 29, after the ruling of Justice John Tsoho, who denied the Biafra leader's bail application.

“Upon the application of the accused person, the team led by Nnoruka Udechukwu (SAN) and Joe Adi (SAN) no longer represent Nnamdi Kanu,” he said. “We are no longer in this matter.”

In a letter addressed to the court, Kanu stated that his lawyers were Chuks Muoma (SAN) and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, excluding Udechukwu, who argued his bail application, and Vincent Obetta, the counsel, who had represented him since the beginning of his trial at the chief magistrate court, Wuse zone 2, Abuja.

Therefore, a protesting Udechukwu announced his withdrawal from the case. He asked the court to strike out his name as Kanu’s counsel.

But Muoma urged Justice Tsoho to go ahead with the ruling, even though Udechukwu, who argued the bail application had backed out.

The judge however refused Kanu's bail.
