Body deports 448 illegal immigrants through Seme border post

The command’s spokesman further said that five foreigners were refused entry into the country through the border during the period.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Command in Seme on Wednesday said it deported 448 illegal immigrants between January and June 2015.

The command's spokeman, Mr Salman Yusuf, said that 60 Nigerians were also repatriated from other countries through the Seme border post in Badagry, Lagos State.

Yusuf said that the deportees were made up of 368 males and 80 females, noting that they were nationals of Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Ghana.

Yusuf said that 56,699 travellers, made up of 39,101 males and 17,598 females, entered the country through the border post with their valid passports.

Yusuf, however, said that 82,570 people, comprised of 64,079 males and 18,491 females, departed Nigeria through Seme border within the period.

"The foreigners that were refused entry included three males and two females and were from Britain, Gabon and Angola.

Yusuf said that during the period, the border was temporarily closed twice on March 28 and April 11, respectively for the country’s general elections.
