Agency introduces new seafarer's certification documents

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has introduced a new seafarer’s medical certification.

This is contained in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, by the Head of Public Relations, NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka.

The statement said that the new certification was in compliance with extant requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 and Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 1998 as amended.

It said the Acting Director General of NIMASA, Mr Haruna Baba Jauro, described the effort as part of NIMASA's role of domesticating International Maritime Laws and Convention to ensure marine environment safety.

According to the statement, the director general said the new certificate was more secure as they it was printed with better security features.

It added that the director general assured stakeholders of the agency's commitment to better safety standards in all areas of maritime operations.
