The North East zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has started distributing special needs food and non food items for internally displaced persons in camps across Maiduguri metropolis.

According to NEMA officials, the items are meant to cater for IDPs with special needs like diabetic patients, babies and nursing mothers. The food items distributed to the camps includes: Cerelac formula for babies,milk,biscuits,custard,Milo, wheat, Hungary rice,soya plus, a Northern drink 'Kunun tsamiya' and others.
Abdulkadir Ibrahim, information officer, NEMA North East, disclosed that non food items were also distributed. Abdulkadir named the non food items to include: slippers,blankets,plates,spoons, Vaseline ,soap, detergents and dignity kits for lactating mothers. He said the distribution of the items is part of the memorandum of understanding signed by the Agency and Borno state government. "NEMA supplies all food items to be prepared in camps while the state government provides condiments and other necessities for cooking the food," Abdulkadir added.
