They said further that they would have been glad if Ndume had been removed outright due to his insensitivity to the plight of IDPs from his state.

The IDPs said that they were approached to join a protest to demand Ndume’s reinstatement but they refused.

“Someone told me that they called him for a meeting in Area One, that all camps in Abuja they are coming out to protest because of what happened to Mr. Ndume,” a spokesman for the IDPs said.

“I wasn’t happy because we thought they were going to remove him all in all in the Senate. Because, this man, we’ve been here about two years, Ndume is our senator, but Ndume didn’t go to our camp one day, or send somebody to visit his people in my camp,” he added.

Ndume was suspended from the Senate on March 29 for raising a petition against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye.

The Borno senator urged the Senate to investigate Saraki over claims that his vehicle had been seized by customs officers because it was cleared with fake documents.

Melaye, on the other hand, was investigated over claims that he did not graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University as claimed.

Both Saraki and Melaye were cleared of the charges by the Senate ethics committee which recommended Ndume’s suspension.

The Borno senator’s suspension will expectedly last six months.

Meanwhile, Saraki has said that he doesn’t have the power to reverse Ndume’s suspension.
