Some aggrieved inmates of the prison on May 28 set part of the prison ablaze during a riot, while two inmates escaped.

Governor Nasir El-rufai

Governor Nasiru El-Rufa'i of Kaduna State, said on Saturday, June 13, that the state government will rehabilitate the Zaria Prison at a cost of N24 millon.

He stated this in Zaria during an inspection visit to the prison.

Responding, the Comptroller of Prisons in Kaduna State, Alhaji Abubakar Garba, appreciated the governor for what he described as humanitarian intervention.

He observed that the renovation, if completed, would give the entire prison a new look, apart from improving its level of security.
