Kaduna State Governor-elect inherits N73billion from predecessor

The outgoing governor said that the state’s treasury is at N8billion, adding that the state is not owing its workers any month’s salary.

The outgoing Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Yero, has said that the state is indebted to the tune of N73billion.

He said this on Thursday, May 21, in his handover notes to the state’s Governor-elect, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.

Yero said that the state’s treasury is at N8billion, adding that the state is not owing its workers any month’s salary.

The governor stated that the debt comprises N46billion from local government sources, N2billion internal bonds and N23billion pending arrears to contractors in the state.

In his response, El-rufai said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition Committee will scrutinise the handover notes.

He said the situation in the state is not as bad as envisaged, while asking for Yero’s blessing for his administration to be able to advance the state.

“The situation is not as bad as we thought. Pray for us and give us your support so that we can succeed in bringing  development to the state,” he said.
