Nasir El-Rufai Free feeding program increased school enrolment – Governor says

El-Rufai said he had to cut costs and block all leakages to ensure that the feeding program continues.

The Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that the free school feeding program increased enrolment in schools by 60 percent.

The Governor launched the school feeding program for pupils in primary schools on Monday, January 18, 2016.

Channels TV reports that El-Rufai said he had to cut costs and block all leakages to ensure that the feeding program continues.

The Governor also revealed that the program which feeds 1.5 million pupils, costs the government N1.2b every month.

He added that the school feeding program has also helped parents.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Kaduna State, Yohanna Allah Magani criticised the feeding program, saying it is a waste of time.

The Kaduna state commissioner for education, Dr. Shehu Adamu also revealed that some pupils run away from school after eating their food.

The government also sacked two senior education officials and suspended two others for diverting food meant for feeding the primary school pupils.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose said he has no intention of contributing to the Federal Government’s School Feeding Programme.
