The Ward Focal Person, Mrs Olufunmilayo Obatayo, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in FESTAC Town, Lagos.

Obatayo explained that the figure was about 90 per cent of the target for Orire Ward alone, for March 18.

“We were able to reach out to 15 churches today in my ward. The entire target for my ward today is 2,532. We were able to immunise about 2,400 plus,” she said.

She, however, said that the number reached wasn’t without some challenges.

According to her, apart from the high weather temperature; some of the vaccination teams were rejected by some churches, when they were on the field.

“We were rejected by some churches. Some others said we should come back after the service.

“Alhough some of the people that we could not vaccinate in the church, eventually came to the health centre.

“Some say they prefer coming to the health centre,” she said.

Obatayo said, “We have every material we need here and everything we need to use on the field is available.”

She urged parents and caregivers to take their wards for the immunisation, which would continue on Monday at the temporary locations, schools and the PHC.

NAN reports that the first stream of the Measles Vaccination Campaign (MVC) would end on March 20.
