Children malnourished in the North

Mrs Hauwa Zoaka, the Nutrition Officer, Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency,  made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Yola.

Zoaka said that the training would facilitate data collection from staff involved in community management of acute malnutrition in the 21 local government areas of the state.

She said that the two-day training would help eradicate all bottlenecks connected with data collation on the malnutrition programme in the state.

According to her, the state government recently expanded its nutrition intervention from the initial 13 local government areas to all the 21 local government areas of the state, to effectively address the problem of malnutrition in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Standardized Monitoring Assessment Relief in Transition (SMART) survey of 2015 indicated that 34,512 children in Adamawa are severely malnourished.

Experts consider the figure as a high prevalence which, if left untreated, would increase the risk of mortality by nine folds.
