The house made the call on Monday, sequel to a motion of urgent public importance moved by Alhaji Nuhu Achika, member, (APC), representing Wudil Constituency in the state house of assembly.
Achika said the recent rampant cases of malaria across the state was worrisome and had created fears in the people of a possible spread of the disease, especially those at the rural areas.
The lawmaker added that “this is the right time to redouble efforts in providing all the necessary measures so that the spread of the malaria outbreak can be prevented before it gets out of control”.
After exhaustive deliberation, the assembly referred the matter to the house committee on health, asking it to find out the level of state government’s preparedness to tackle the disease in the state.
The Speaker, Abdullahi Ata, in his summation, urged the committee to invite the State’s Drugs Management Agency to report on the availability or otherwise of the malaria drugs at the moment.
He said that the Assembly would also ensure that lawmakers made their contributions by providing drugs and nets to their constituents.
“We are also going to invite the Commissioner of Health to ascertain the achievement of the state government in ensuring the prevention of the outbreak so far”, the Speaker said.
He, therefore, called on the state government to redouble its efforts to nip in the bud the spread of the outbreak.
The house gave the Achika-led house committee on health a one-week dateline to present its report at plenary.
