Ex-EFCC Chairman urges court to stop Senate probe of alleged N1tn fraud

Lamorde is asking the court to declare that the Senate can’t invite him to appear before it based on accusations related to his tenure as EFCC Chairman since he had already vacated the position.

Former EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the Senate from probing him over allegations that he diverted one trillion naira worth of funds recovered from corrupt persons while in office.

Lamorde is asking the court to declare that the Senate can’t invite him to appear before it based on accusations related to his tenure as EFCC Chairman since he had already vacated the position, ThisDay reports.

He is also urging the court to rule that it’s improper for the Senate to invite him by merely writing an invitation letter instead of using a summons.

Lamorde shunned the Senate’s last invitation and instead sent his lawyer, Festus Keyamo to appear on his behalf.

Keyamo’s appearance was however rejected by the legislators who threatened to issue a warrant for the former EFCC boss’ arrest.

Lamorde was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 9, 2015, and by Ibrahim Magu.
