A helicopter crash occurred in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos on Wednesday, August 12, 2015.

According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft was spinning before it crashed into the Lagoon at about 3pm.

Here are five things you should know about the accident:

  1. Six people have been confirmed dead while six were rescued

  2. The ill-fated aircraft belonged to Bristow Helicopters

  3. The chopper, marked 5N – BDG – 760540, was flying from an oil rig between Ondo and Lagos.

  4. The victims were oil workers and had spent two weeks on the rig and were coming back for their two-week break when the crash occurred.

  5. One person walked out of the crash without assistance
