This followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance by Rep. Sergius Ogun (Edo-PDP) which was unanimously adopted by members.
The motion was on the “Need to stop killings by herdsmen in Ugboha community of Esan North East and Esan South East Federal Constituency of Edo State’’.
Ogun said that suspected herdsmen attacked and killed three persons and injured others on March 16 in Ugboha.
He added that the incessant attacks by herdsmen on the community had led to the killing of innocent people in the past.
The lawmaker decried the inability of security agencies to safeguard lives and property in the community.
He said that the protection and security of lives and property was the duty of the Federal Government as enshrined in the Constitution.
Ogun said that unless urgent measures were taken to nip the ugly trend in the bud, the rate of herdsmen attack and wanton killings would continue.
The House, however, mandated its Committee on Public Safety and Intelligence to ensure compliance and report back in two weeks.
