Soldiers attack NUJ office, destroy iPads

The soldiers attacked journalists after claiming that someone was taking photographs of them from inside the building.

According to a report by The Punch, the soldiers barged into the building after claiming that someone was taking photographs of them from inside.

According to Chairman of Council, John Emejor, the soldiers slapped a national union officer, Ezeogo Bonny Okoro, and destroyed laptops as well as other valuables in the building.

He said, "Our press centre was invaded by soldiers, two Journalists lost their IPads and phones, while a national leader in the office was attacked.

"Our stand is that those involved in this attack on innocent Journalists should be fished out and punished in line with the constitution of the Country."

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Major Oyegoke Gbadamosi, confirmed the encounter to The Punch.

The incident happened only days after soldiers clashed with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) while trying to gain access into the home of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Umuahia.

The clash allegedly left many people injured as the army defended its involvement, saying its soldiers were attacked first.
