Kidnappers free 75-year-old woman

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the woman, who is the mother of Alhaji Yusha'u Kebbe, the All Nigeria People's Party governorship candidate in the state during the 2011 polls, had rejoined her family.

Hajiya Fatima Mohammed, the 75-year-old woman kidnapped a week ago at Kebbe, in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State, has been released by her abductors.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the woman, who is the mother of Alhaji Yusha'u Kebbe, the All Nigeria People's Party governorship candidate in the state during the 2011 polls, had rejoined her family.

Mr Sabo Kurawa, spokesman of the Police Command in the state, told NAN on Wednesday in Sokoto that no ransome was paid for her release.

''The Command can authoritatively confirm that the kidnapped woman has been released.

"There was no payment of ransom before she was released and this is the information at hand for now,'' Kurawa said.

All efforts to get the comment of Kebbe on the release of his mother proved abortive as his cell phone was switched off, but NAN learnt that he is billed to address a press conference on the matter later in the day.
