According to The Punch, the incident involving indigenes of Onne happened at Opaku Park in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
The youths who claimed to be members of a local government task force had gone to the park to challenge the traders to pay levies, which one of them refused to pay.
Arguments over this soon led to violence that reportedly claimed the life of one of the youths, with a trader also losing his life during the clash.
The violence between the two parties spilled into a community affair, and a church and mosque were reportedly set on fire.
Rivers state Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident, saying, "We are aware of the development, though I am yet to get full details. We have swung into action and our men have been deployed in the area to maintain calm."
