Mourners throng late Sen. Pwajok's residence

Mourners have continued to throng the family compound of Sen Gyang Pwajok, who died in an Indian hospital on Thursday.

Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), who visited the home in Du, Local Government area, on Friday, report that the family compound and its vicinity were filled with distraught mourners.

NAN also observed that people gathered in groups discussing the development in hushed tones.

Some of the mourners, who volunteered to speak with NAN correspondents, described Pwajok's death as "simply unbelievable''.

"It is particularly shocking because it came so sudden.

"We had no inkling of any sickness, only to be hit with the news that he is dead,'' an elderly fellow, Ajas Zang, told NAN.

A youth, Amos Dungd described Pwajok's exit as "very confusing''.

"He was always around the youths and cared for us.

"He gave us a listening ear and was quick to come to our aid whenever we were in need,'' he said,

Another respondent, a female teacher, said that Pwajok's humility would be greatly missed.

"He mingled freely with everyone and related with all smoothly irrespective of age or social status,'' she said, amid sobs.

Pwajok, who was PDP's candidate in the April 11 governorship elections, represented Plateau North in the 7th National Assembly.

A former university lecturer, Pwajok was previously Director-General in charge of Research and Planning in the Plateau Government House, before he was appointed Chief of Staff to Gov. Jonah Jang.

He contested and won the senate seat to represent Plateau North in October 2012, after the demise of Sen Gyang Dantong.
