NLC urges govt to pay 3 months owed salaries

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State has appealed to the state government to ensure prompt payment of the three months salaries owed workers in the state.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi

The NLC Chairman in the state, Waheed Olojede, made the appeal in Ibadan at the 2015 Workers Day celebration held at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday, May 1.

He said that the new labour executive is ready to collaborate with the state government to move the state forward.

"We will engage government in a round-table aimed at resolving the workers salary arrears issue because a happy worker is he or she that produces," he said.

"Employers of labour, both public and private, should see workers as partners in progress and should create conducive environment for them to function," he said.

In his remarks, the state Governor, Abiola Ajimobi promised to provide workers all necessary welfare package to excel.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Adeyemo, attributed the non-payment of salaries to lack of funds from the Federation Account.

He said that the self-will of his government to deliver on its promises to workers in order to ensure efficiency has made it put all measures in place.

"I appreciate and acknowledge the perseverance of all workers in the state.
