The bombs went off at about 6:15pm and the resulting blast caused tremors in nearby buildings which included the Ramat Polytechnic institute, Vanguard reports.
Reports say the explosion occurred at the Yerwa Government Girls Secondary School, where some IDPs are currently taking refuge.
However the blasts were said to have been set off by security operatives who found the planted bomb before it could be detonated or go off on its own.
“The explosions were safely detonated by security operatives at Yewa Secondary School located at the heart of the city after discovering that it was planted by insurgents to cause havoc in the camps,” a source said.
It is however not clear if there were any casualties from the incident as the incident has not been confirmed by the necessary authorities.
