7 Oil thieves bag 84-yrs jail term

The convicts were first arraigned on alongside their vessel and company on August 28, 2014 on five counts charge and have since began their jail term.

 

Seven individuals, who owned Hepa Global Energy Limited  have been convicted for illegal and unlawful dealing in 1,459 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol.

The individuals were convicted by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos and presided over by Justice Okon Abang on Friday, October 30, 2015.

In a report by Vanguard Newspaper, the men; Adedamola Ogungbayi; Olaniran Olabode; Suraju Gasali; Moses Emmanuel; Wilson Bonsi; Okaraodi Uche and Onyeogo Happy were sentenced to 12 years each while their oil vessel, ‘MT Good Success’ and its content was forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The report further revealed that the oil thieves also forfeited the sum of N66.6m and $975,000 belonging to the convicts’ company, Hepa Global Energy Limited, domiciled with the First City Monument Bank to the Federal Government.
