Woman, three children die in fire accident at home

The fire was said to have started at about 2 am after power supply was restored.

Six persons have died in the early hours of today, May 2 in Jos, after fire razed a storey building.

A woman and her three children, as well as her sister and their maid were reportedly killed in the inferno. It is believed they were suffocated by smoke from the fire.

Residents say the fire was likely triggered by an electric surge and aided by a gas cylinder.

A neighbour said, "We had the shout of the woman saying come and help me, come and help me!. All of us ran out to see what we can do to help. In the process, any iron you touch will shock one so we quickly alerted the authorities, cut the cable line that supplied light to the house. In the process of going up, the gas cylinder exploded. In that case, we had nothing to do rather than to run and call the fire service."
