NGO embarks on campaign against urban poverty

According to the NGO, the project seeks to draw public attention to the alarming rise of poverty levels over the past years.

Yvonne Banda would not want her son to fall into poverty

Ms Ummi Abubakar, Project Officer, Women’s Advancement through Cinema and Human Exchange, (MIND Project WATCH), announced this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

She said MIND use the narrative dialogues to give a voice to women and other people who have no medium to air their voice in the society.

She said WATCH is a participatory research and media project that advocates for the rights of women and girls in the fast-expanding settlements for the urban poor surrounding Abuja.

According to her, the project seeks to draw public attention to the alarming rise of poverty levels over the past years.

“The campaign also focus particularly on the rights of women and girls who tend to be hit hardest by the negative outgrowths of urbanisation.’’

She said the 55 days activism to fight urban poverty which commenced in October will end on Dec. 10, 2016.

Abubakar said global observance days would be observed by the NGO with talk shows on radio, television, print and social media publications in partnership with media professionals.
