A Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), International Centre for Women Empowerment and Child Development (ICWECD), has said that the organisation has embarked on tree planting campaign in secondary schools in Delta.

The Executive Director of the Delta-based NGO, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, made the disclosure in an interview the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Sunday.

Anyafulu said the campaign, which began in 2011. was to enlighten the children on the need for tree planting to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the state.

She said the organisation had been able to cover 200 secondary schools across the state, especially those in the riverine communities which were prone to flooding.

The executive director called on the state government to step up efforts to mitigate the impacts of the imminent flood disaster in the state.
