Over 13 dead, 17 injured as terrorists storm Maiduguri

It was said that the terrorists stormed the Borno capital the town with bombs and heavy shootings, leaving many houses destroyed.

 

Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly killed at least 13 people and injured 17 in Maiduguri, Borno state today, Saturday, May 29, in was reports described as heavy invasion.

A member of the youth vigilance group, anonymously told Punch that the insurgents attempted to invade the distressed town at about 12.50 early this morning from the Ajilari Cross and Bintu Sugar areas of the town.

He said the soldiers quickly engaged them before they could overrun the town.

“The insurgents were successfully repelled after the heavy shelling, gunshots and explosions. They fled into the dark towards the direction they came from,” he said.

He could not however determine the casualty figure. It is believed that the number may be higher given the intensity of the attack.

A resident of Gomari, part of Maiduguri, which shares neighborhood with Bintu Sugar, Ibrahim Iliya, said five residents of the area were killed in the attempted invasion.

Iliya said a stray bullet killed a man who was sleeping in the open as a result of the harsh weather.

He revealed that four people were killed in a house which was affected by the explosion in the area.
