Unidentified gunmen abduct monarch

Otobotekere was kidnapped on Thursday, July 23, 2015, after the attackers fired several shots to scare residents away from the area.

Unidentified gunmen in Bayelsa State have abducted C.A.O. Otobotekere, a monarch in Tombia community in the Yenagoa Local Government Area.

The incident has been confirmed by the police spokesman for the state, Asinim Butswat.

Buswat said:

“On the 23rd of July, 2015, five unknown gunmen, who were heavily armed, went to the residence of His Royal Highness, Chief C.A.O. Otobotekere, in Gbarain Clan of Tombia Community and abducted the chief.”

“The gunmen forced him into a car and drove to Amassoma/Tombia Bridge. They burnt the car beyond recognition, took the victim and whisked away in a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.”

A vendor in the area is said to have been hit by one of the bullets fired and is currently receiving treatment at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri.
