Industrialist calls for inclusion of history in education curriculum

An industrialist in Anambra, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, has called on the government to reintroduce history to the school curriculum to keep the present generation abreast with past events.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Azuinas Model Nursery/Primary School in Awka on Tuesday, Ezeemo pleaded with the states and federal governments to bring back history to the education curriculum to help the present generation connect with their past.

He also said that parents should give their children a solid foundation in life to produce a society free of crime.

He said that the children needed to have a solid foundation as the bedrock for a successful society.

He urged parents and teachers to be on top of their responsibility of moulding young lives for a greater society.

Speaking to the pupils of the school, Ezeemo charged them to be obedient to their parents, elders and to always read their books, describing them as the leaders of tomorrow.

He said that if the children were not given the basic foundation, it would spell doom for the future.

Ezeemo a leader of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA), said that if parents gave their children a sound moral foundation, it would provide a society free of crime.

He later donated a bus, 85 text books and 320 exercise books to the school.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev Anthony Akabogu, the Parish Priest of Aquinas Catholic Church, said that the call to bring back history to the education curriculum was apt.

Akabogu said the re-introduction would help in making the children to know their roots, values and customs.

He said that a solid foundation for the children would carry them into adulthood.

He urged parents and teachers to impact good character in the lives of the young generation.

The President of the Catholic Women Organsation in the church, Mrs Lizzy Nweke, said that mothers had a role to play in child development and that as mothers they would do their best.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Ngozi Nwankwo, promised to ensure that the teachers did their best in discharging their duties.

Little Miss Eze Adaobi, Miss Chieso Uloma and Master Uzoma Ofor said that they were happy with the donation by Ezeemo and promised to take their studies seriously.
