Disbursing the money in Awka on Friday, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export, Mr Afam Mbanefo, said the state government had also concluded plans for the construction of storage facilities.
He said that the 2,270 farmer groups in the state were expected to cultivate rice across 3,000 hectares of land.
In his remarks, the state Project Coordinator FADAMA III Additional Financing, Mr Patrick Eboh, reminded the farmers that it was the desire of the state government to produce 320, 000 metric tonnes of rice yearly.
Eboh, who said each farmer group received N350, 000, noted that the finance was disbursed under the additional FADAM III Financing project for the procurement of agro-chemicals, certified seed rice and fertilisers.
According to him, the disbursement is the first batch of payment for those who have completed their 50 per cent cash counterpart contributions.
In their separate speeches, Mrs Chiwendu Eguatu of Ifeadigo group in Ogbaru Local Government Area and Mr Ndubuisi Okpala of Ugboma-agu cluster in Omor, Ayamelum Local Council Area, commended the state government.
While expressing happiness over the finance, the duo promised to utilise the funds judiciously.
