Ibom Specialist Hospital.

Six months after its launch, the Akwa Ibom specialist hospital, is now officially open.

The hospital was commissioned by former Governor Godswill Akpabio, before he left office May 29, 2015.

During the launch of the hospital, the former Governor was quoted saying “Sometimes, people die in the air while being transported abroad for treatment. We wanted to shorten travel time for patients going abroad and at the same time get revenue for the state from health tourism.”

Nigerians started asking questions about the hospital, when Akpabio was hurriedly flown abroad, after his accident.

According to Premium Times, an Indian cardiologist said “It’s a standard hospital that could be compared to any hospital anywhere in the world.”

Reports also say the hospital may start full operations because of the time required to train support staff.
